How to Keep Your Home Cool
Posted on July 24, 2014
Kids playing outside, neighborhood cookouts and family vacations to Florida are all things that characterize the summer season. However, the sunshine can come with some pretty oppressive heat waves.
While we love to spend time in the sand, sometimes there is noting better than heading home to an air-conditioned space. So, as the weather continues to heat up, there are a few things you can do to keep your home cool.
If possible, try to program your thermostat. Set it at an appropriate temperature when you are home, for instance 75 degrees, and increase that temperature for the hours you are away. Keep in mind that the lower you set your A/C, the harder it works. Also, it takes more energy to restart a unit, so it is best to just set it and forget it.
While on the subject of saving money on your utility bill, consider using your ceiling fans more often. It will help limit A/C use and cut down on your overall energy costs. Just remember to rotate your fan blades counter-clockwise so that cool air is pushed down.
