With Tropical Storm Karen churning in the Gulf of Mexico, now may not be the time for major home repairs or the installation of, say, new hurricane shutters, but there are plenty of ways you can still prepare your Northwest Florida real estate and family.
While the sun is still shining, take a walk around your property. Bring in any yard decor that could be picked up by winds and clear fallen yard debris. Fill up your car’s gas tanks and make sure you have a cell phone charger equipped to work with your car’s available ports. While you are out, grab an extra flashlight and batteries, just in case. Sign up now for emergencry alerts from Okaloosa, Walton, Santa Rosa or other applicable counties. They are available via text and email.
Once the storm reaches the coast, stay inside and make sure all windows and doors are closed. Monitor weather channels, as well as those alerts from your county. Most importantly, use caution, stay safe and heed warnings from officials. For more tips, check out our hurricane safety guide at GoSouthern.com.
