A great realtor knows the value of listening.

Finding a great realtor is a key step to buying or selling a home.  Of course, clients want agents to have industry knowledge, but more often, realtors are recommended by word of mouth rather than chosen by their resume. This type of organic advertising can transform (or destroy) a realty.

So what (and who) earns word-of-mouth recommendations? Those who know how to form relationships. Plain and simple. Human connection is the root of all successful business practices. Out of it blossoms trust, which translates to conversions.

People want relationships with business professionals they trust. The decision to buy or sell a home is one of the most important and financially significant decisions a person will make. It’s no wonder, then, they carefully evaluate realtors based on the following traits.

  1. Authenticity

Neither buyers nor sellers want an inflated perspective or empty flattery. They want an expert’s sincere opinion so they can make the most informed decision. Beware of realtors who over-promise and under-deliver. This is a sign that they are interested in their bottom line, not yours.

  1. Consideration

The requirements of a property transaction can often take a great deal of time. Potential buyers and sellers look for realtors who are considerate of their time. This means arriving on time and returning calls and emails promptly. Clients sense whether a real estate agent genuinely values their time and business as much as he/she values his/her own.

  1. Expertise

Of course, no number of pleasantries can carry a real estate transaction without knowledge at its foundation. A great real estate agent is constantly seeking the most up to date information, comparable listings, market trends, and industry insight.

  1. Gratitude

Gratitude should be expressed genuinely and often. Words of approbation and emails can remind clients that they weren’t simply a commission. Take notice of birthdays, housing anniversaries, and make thank you cards a priority.
