What’s a Good Home Improvement Investment?
Posted on October 9, 2014
You have heard it before, buying a home is one of the biggest financial investments you will make. And because your home is one of your largest financial assets, doesn’t it make sense to upgrade, improve and invest in it to further maintain your space’s value? Knowing that is one thing, execution is often where the problem lies.
So, how do you decide where to invest and which home improvement projects will give you the most bang for your buck? The truth is that not all projects will increase the value of your home, but some are more likely to than others.
According to the 2014 Cost vs. Value report, exterior projects consistently rank as the most cost effective solution for home-reno projects. Based off of how much money they cost and how much is recouped after selling, you may want to consider replacing your wooden front door with a steel security door. This project comes in first with a 96% return on investment. Other items on the list include everything from new windows to replaced siding.
As far as interior projects go, if you are interested in selling you may want to convert an attic to an additional bedroom or bathroom, or even a minor kitchen remodel has been projected to return 82% of your money.
