Winter Activities on the Emerald Coast
Posted on February 4, 2016
If you have recently purchased a home in Fort Walton Beach you may be anxious to get out and explore your new city. But, this is a beach town so everything is closed, right? Not exactly; there is still plenty to experience in the winter!
While it may be the area’s ‘off-season’ and visitors are not flocking to our beaches, the Emerald Coast is still bustling with things to do. In fact, now is a great time to get out and try restaurants and attractions as they won’t be nearly as crowded as they will be come spring. So, what do we recommend you check out first?
Well, if it truly is one of the few cold days we get on the Gulf Coast, hit one of the restaurants that has caught your eye since you’ve been in town. You can even head to the Destin harbor to try one of the popular seafood joints, such as Dewey Destin’s or AJ’s. Both offer indoor seating that still provides a great view.
This is also a great time to explore the local shopping destinations such as Destin Commons and Silver Sand Premium Outlets, which will be packed on summer afternoons. HarborWalk Village, located just across the bridge from Okaloosa Island, also offers great family-friendly activities and seasonal events all year long. Museums such as the Indian Temple Mound and Destin History and Fishing Museum are also great to explore on cooler days.
Of course, there will be days, even during the winter, when the temperatures reach into the 70’s. And, we know we don’t have to tell you where you should be then – hit the beach! Have fun exploring your new hometown.
